Minutes of the Sheffield & District Chess Association: Fixture Meeting Tuesday 19th September 2017 at The Red
Lion, 653 London Road, Sheffield S2 4HT, and resulting fixtures.
1. Apologies for absence:
A Hards, G Frost, P Beckett, Worksop.
2. Minutes of the fixture meeting 2016. Were taken as an accurate record of the events of the night, but note that
the Richardson Cup draw had been done incorrectly and was done again after the meeting.
3. Matters arising.
4. Presentation of trophies for 2016/17 season.
5. Registration of players for the 2017/18 season under rules 17(a,b) : see app. 1. We still need registrations for
Nomads A, Nomads B, Worksop A, Worksop B, Ravenfield A, Darnall & Handsworth B
6. Draw for the First and Second Rounds of the Richardson Cup.
(Matches to be played: First round week commencing Monday 9th October. Second round, week starting Monday
13th November.)
Round 1:
SASCA bye (as holders);
Nomads 2 v Nomads 1
Darnall v Clay Cross
Chesterfield v Barnsley
University v Aughton
Ecclesall 1 v Rotherham
Woodseats v Hillsborough
Worksop v Ecclesall 3
Eccesall 2 v Ravenfield.
Round 2 will be a single match, winners of Nomads 2 v Nomads 1 home to the winners of Ecclesall 1 v
Rotherham. This reduces us to 8 teams for the quarter finals in January.
Note that first round losers will be entered into the Plate, unless they contact Phill Beckett to decline. Nobody on
the night anticipated declining.
7. Distribution of Fixtures for the 2017/18 season:

Webmaster's note: see General Secretary's original minutes distributed in S&DCA News Bulletin for proposed fixture tables, which includes some alterations on the night. Note that Darnall C are a late entry into division 5. They are taking over the fixtures provisionally allotted to a possible University B team. Darnall undertook to contact other clubs should they need alterations. Note that SASCA C will be playing one match against each of the other clubs, for double points.

8. Announcements by Officials and Secretaries.
a) Sheffield Individual Championship: entries to Geoff Brown by 15 10 17.
b) Hope Valley: volunteer organiser needed or this folds. Contact John Fryer.
c) Yorkshire Year books _ can be bought from Steve Mann.
d) Ravenfield and University thanked Tony Perry for encouraging comments in his reports.
e) Aughton’s venue requires a prompt exit soon after 10. Aughton trust that people understand that this means
clocks will have to start at 7 30 on the dot, even if people aren’t there yet.
f) Rotherham advise that satnavs set to postcode tend to direct you down Greasborough Road, which is not
exactly where their venue (the Bridge Inn) is situated.
g) Treasurer John Mercy set up shop to receive league fees. Please forward to him if you didn’t pay on the night.
h) Tony Perry called on both captains to tell him if fixtures were rearranged. Bill Ward commented that this was
good advice in relation to all divisions.
9. Any Other Business. No further developments on the Chessnuts issue, which should now be the subject of
discussion in all clubs.
